How to Compare Tattoo Studio Offers

Both offers are run through the same month. Each day you tattoo brings in your day rate. The studio takes its percentage, its rent or its fee per day, and supplies come out for every day you work. Any extra days a studio fills with its own clients are added on top. What's left is what each offer is worth to you.

Because a percentage grows with every day you work while rent stays still, the better offer can change with how busy you are. The calculator finds the number of your own days a month where the two cross.

The Money Is Only Half the Decision

Where you tattoo shapes who finds you, who you learn from, and what your work looks like to the clients you want. The money tells you whether an offer can work. Which set-up fits which stage of a career is in what percentage tattoo shops take, and what an offer leaves you over a whole year is in the income calculator.

Common Questions About Choosing a Tattoo Studio

How do I compare two tattoo studio offers?

Put both deals into the same month: your day rate, the days you tattoo, and what each studio takes - a percentage, a monthly rent or a fee per day. Add any days a studio fills for you with its own clients. Whatever is left after the studio and supplies is what each offer is really worth to you.

Is a lower percentage always the better tattoo studio deal?

No. A studio that takes more but fills days for you with walk-ins or its own clients can leave you more than a cheaper one where every client is yours to find. That's why the calculator asks how many extra days each studio fills.

When does renting a booth beat paying a percentage?

Once you tattoo enough days at a high enough rate. A percentage grows with every day you work and every price rise, while rent stays the same. The calculator shows the number of your own days a month where the two offers cross.

What else should I weigh besides the money?

Who you would work next to, what the studio looks like to your ideal client, and whether it fits the brand you are building. The money decides whether an offer is possible; the rest decides whether it is right.
