Enter your flash price, how long each piece takes and the hours you'll tattoo. See how many pieces fit, what the day leaves you, and how it compares with a normal day.

Or the average, if your pieces come at different prices.

Including setup and clean-down between clients.

Printing the flash sheet, promoting the day, anything extra.

To compare the flash day with a normal working day.

So both days are compared after supplies, not just after the studio.

How to Plan a Tattoo Flash Day

The hours you'll tattoo, divided by the minutes each piece really takes, give the pieces you can fit - rounded down, because a piece you can't finish doesn't count. Those pieces at your flash price are what clients pay. The studio's share, supplies for every piece and what the day itself costs come out, and what's left is what the flash day leaves you.

With your normal day rate filled in, the calculator compares the two days: what a normal day leaves you after the studio and its supplies, against what the flash day leaves you. The difference is what the flash day is worth to you over a normal one. When it comes out lower, it shows the price per piece that would bring the two level - the honest way to see what a lower flash price costs you.

A Flash Day Is Not a Discount Day

Flash is pre-drawn work at a set price, done quickly. It isn't your normal work marked down, and pricing it like a sale teaches people to wait for the next one - the same trap we describe in why discounting kills your tattoo business. Done well, a flash day earns on the day and brings in people who book bigger work later. Where flash fits in a growing income is in how tattoo artists go from employee income to owner income, and what your normal day should be is in the day rate calculator.

Common Questions About Flash Days

How much should I charge for flash on a flash day?

Enough that the day still pays once the studio, supplies and the cost of running it are out. The calculator shows the price per piece that would bring the day level with your normal day rate, so you can see what a lower flash price really costs you.

Is a flash day a discount?

It shouldn't be. A flash day is pre-drawn work at a set price, done quickly - not your normal work marked down. Price the pieces for the design and the time, and use the calculator to check the day still pays.

How many tattoos can I do on a flash day?

Divide the hours you'll tattoo by the time each piece really takes, including the setup and clean-down between clients. The calculator rounds down, because a piece you can't finish doesn't count. Being honest about the minutes per piece matters more than any other number here.

Is a flash day worth it if it earns less than a normal day?

It can be, if it brings people who book bigger work with you later. That part doesn't show up on the day itself, so keep track of where your next clients come from and you'll know what a flash day is really worth to you.
