How to Calculate Your Tattoo Close Rate

Your close rate is the share of inquiries that turned into a booking. Twelve bookings from forty inquiries is 30%. With an average project value, the calculator also shows what one more booking is worth, and what it is worth to book one more in every ten inquiries - the same as raising your close rate by ten points.

Not Every Inquiry Should Book

Some of the inquiries that didn't book were never your client. The budget wasn't there, or the idea doesn't fit your style, and letting those go is healthy. The ones worth fixing are the avoidable losses: the late reply, the consultation that ended without a deposit, the conversation that went quiet. We walk through each of those gaps in client management for tattoo artists.

Booking More Without More Inquiries

More inquiries cost money and time. A better close rate mostly costs attention: replying the same day, aiming the conversation at a consultation, and taking the deposit while the project still feels exciting. What happens inside that conversation is in how to run a tattoo consultation that closes bigger projects, and why the number is worth tracking every month is in what tattoo artists should track.

Common Questions About Inquiries and Close Rate

How do I calculate my close rate as a tattoo artist?

Divide the inquiries that turned into a booking by all the inquiries you got in the same month. Twelve bookings from forty inquiries is a 30% close rate. It only works if every inquiry gets written down, including the ones that went nowhere.

What is a good close rate for a tattoo artist?

There isn't one number worth chasing, because it depends on how many of your inquiries were ever your client. Track your own close rate every month and watch the direction. A falling close rate with steady inquiries is a conversation problem, not a marketing one.

Why do tattoo inquiries not turn into bookings?

Some should not: the budget was never there, or the idea does not fit your style. The avoidable losses are mostly in the gaps between steps - a reply that came a day late, a consultation that ended without a deposit, a conversation nobody followed up.

Should I try to book every inquiry?

No. An inquiry that is not your client costs you more as a booking than as a polite no. The goal is to stop losing the ones that were yours, not to say yes to everyone.
