3X Tattoo Sales in Two Months - The San Tattoo Story

How Lior (San Tattoo) went from almost quitting tattooing to 3x profit, 4x monthly sales, and 7x follower growth. The real story of one of our proudest cases.

By Greg Gelf

I met Lior by getting tattooed by her.

I was blown away. The piece was awesome. Lior was great.

Her art was beautiful. She had a distinct style. And the whole experience of getting tattooed by her - from the first message to sitting in the chair - was memorable in a way most sessions aren’t.

But when I looked at the business side, something didn’t add up.

What was working, and what wasn’t

Lior’s art was already going viral. She had around 6,000 followers. Some of her posts were blowing up. She was getting DMs from all over the world.

The product wasn’t the problem. The art wasn’t the problem. Even the exposure wasn’t really the problem.

The problem was translation. Viral posts weren’t turning into local bookings. She was getting messages from Berlin, LA, Paris. But she’s based in Tel Aviv. Instagram wasn’t showing her posts to the people who could actually walk into her studio.

She was working. But she could tattoo much more. And she wanted to. She knew the product wasn’t the problem. She just didn’t know where the gap was.

A tough year behind her

Before we started, Lior had a tough year. And that made the change even harder.

A tough year has two sides. On one, more difficulties pile up. On the other, there are fewer resources to invest in getting out of it. That’s the spot she was in.

The straight-forward solutions weren’t working. Post more. Get more followers. Run a couple of boosts. None of it moved the needle where it mattered - which was actual bookings, in her actual calendar.

The leap

The first step was extremely hard for her to take. I remember Lior’s hesitation clearly.

I knew she could do it. She was afraid. We didn’t promise anything. She decided to take the leap anyway.

That decision is where the story actually starts.

The strategy: reach the right people, not more people

Not all exposure nets profit. That was the frame we started with.

We stopped doing many of the “immediate” things a struggling tattoo artist usually gets pushed toward. No more discounts. No more posting for the algorithm. No more chasing broad reach.

Instead, we focused on one simple process: reach more potential clients, leave a good impression, and help them book a tattoo.

We started running Meta ads that targeted the right audience specifically. Not everyone, not the world, not vanity metrics. The people in her actual city, in her actual budget range, who resonated with her actual style. The people who could realistically walk through her studio door.

We also told her not to expect growth in the first quarter. That was important. We wanted to set honest expectations - the system needed time to compound, and we didn’t want her hopes riding on the first 30 days.

The next month, she made 4x her usual sum.

Results after a few months

🏆 Profit increased 3x. Within a few months we’d already crossed her total profit from the previous year.

🏆 Clients started reaching out for her dream projects. The exact kind of work she’d been wanting to do.

🏆 She fully booked a Euro-tour. Guest spots she’d only dreamed about.

🏆 Followers grew 7x. By figuring out which posts actually converted and doubling down on those.

In Lior’s own words

“I want to take a moment to say thank you ❤️

Before working with you guys, I couldn’t earn enough to survive and almost quit tattooing. Now I can live safely knowing I’ll always have enough work. I can finally enjoy the process.

Love you guys ❤️“

Our pleasure :)

What this story actually shows

Sometimes viral posts aren’t enough. Sometimes a big follower count isn’t enough. Sometimes great art isn’t even enough.

The real journey a tattoo artist goes through to grow their business is much more complicated and nuanced than the internet makes it look. It’s a system. Art, brand, audience, timing, positioning, pricing, offer, follow-up, ads, calendar, energy - all of it moving together.

You only see real growth when all the pieces fit at the same time. If one piece is off, the rest doesn’t matter as much as you’d think.

What was missing for Lior was some other parts of the system. She was getting exposed, but not to the audience who wanted to book today. We didn’t change the art. We just changed some things around it.

That’s what we build for every artist we work with. Not one silver bullet. The whole system, in a shape that fits them.
